a bit about me…
I am a contemporary artist and educator with a passion for expressing the inferred within my subjects. My art often seeks to cultivate conversations between my viewers, the medium(s) I employ, my chosen production processes, and the subjects I am exploring. My artistic focus merges conceptual inquires and a contemporary use of alternative processes, with the arts of photography, printmaking and mixed-media. With this integration I strive to draw inspiration and technique from the past, to help form new conversations around our current experience of visual art.
Rarely does the work cease with a single capture. I often take the approach that an enriched experience can manifest by building layers of context. By working in series form or by developing more complex individual images, one can achieve a deeper impart.
I have been working in the visual field for over 25 years, and as an arts educator for the past decade. My work has been exhibited in such institutions as the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers Bankside Gallery in London, Aspen Art Museum, Boca Raton Museum of Art, Brevard Art Museum, and The Red Brick Arts Center among others, as well as being housed in private collections throughout the United States.
I was born in Coral Gables, Florida and currently reside in Aspen, Colorado. I received my BS degree in studio art from Florida State University and my MFA in photography from the Academy of Art University. I have been faculty member at the Academy of Art University since 2009, teaching for the graduate photography program.
Through my efforts, I have made significant strides advancing the contemporary practice of photogravure using polymer plates in a direct-image-to-plate application. My methods of production employ the use of SolarPlates, Akua water-based etching inks, and other materials that allow the complete process to remain non-toxic, creating a safer and healthier studio environment.
